Jungle Gym

Site Leaders: Oakleigh Folkes & Ryan Higgins

Site Description:
Poverty is a terrible social ill, but it hits children the hardest both physically and psychologically. Participants on this site will work with Niles Home for Children, which help to house and educate underprivileged children in Kansas City. The Niles Home for Children provides residential treatment, day treatment, and education services to over 150 children with emotional and behavioral difficulties annually. Participants will work both in the educational setting and the residential setting allowing them to work directly with the children and the staff to lend support and needed attention, while gaining insight into the challenges faced by such families.

Site Testimonies:

I cannot think of enough positive things to say about my experience working at the Niles Home for Children. Getting to volunteer in a place that is one of the last hopes for children before they are sent off to correctional facilities is an eye opening and rewarding experience and the facilities at Niles allow you to learn so much during your service there.
